Sarah by Catharine Robb Whyte

Sarah, Portrait of Mrs. Jonas Two Young Men  by Catharine Robb Whyte

oil on canvas
1931
Catharine and Peter Whyte traded this painting for a grizzly skin from Norman Luxton's store in 1932. In a letter from Catharine Whyte to her mother on May 20, 1932, Catharine wrote: "The Depression isn't too bad out here. I traded a picture for a grizzly skin and it was pretty exciting. Pete was at Mr. Luxton's store and saw the grizzly skin there. He had just gotten it from the Indians. It's a perfect beauty and the biggest skin ... Mr. Luxton had said last year he wished he could afford to buy my picture of Mrs. Jonie because he knows her among the best of the Indians."
